Brit Watch! Who to watch out for in Olympic Climbing at the Paris Games

Toby Roberts (19)

Despite still being very young Toby has a wealth of experience in both rock and competition climbing, including a huge breakthrough year in 2023. Having won world cups in both bouldering & lead and consistently taking podiums in the last couple of years, Toby surely has a great chance of an Olympic medal, if not the gold!

Hamish McArthur (23)

York’s own Hamish McArthur has been a mainstay for GB in both junior and senior categories. Hamish’s best finish was a 3rd place in the 2021 lead world championship in Moscow. Hamish has made semi finals (top 20) consistently in both bouldering & lead since moving up into the men’s category and could be an outside shout of a podium placing.

Erin McNeice (20)

Erin has burst onto the scene relatively recently and has had some exceptional results in 2024. She has placed regularly on the podium on the world cup circuit and had a fantastic 3rd place in the Olympic Qualifier Series in Shanghai. She stands a great chance of a podium in Paris, but a win will be extremely hard to come by with Janja Garnbret the class of the women’s field.

Molly Thompson-Smith (26)

Molly is a true inspiration. Her competition and rock climbing CV’s speak for themselves, with V13 sends on rock, a world cup podium and being 5-time British lead champion. What really sets Molly apart though is how she’s bounced back from adversity. Molly has really struggled with serious injuries which have almost ended her Olympic dreams on multiple occasions. These include a broken ankle and a series of serious finger injuries.
